Culinary Takes the Cake!

LHS Culinary teacher Khris Oaks shares that her students faired well in the State Skills USA Contest! In this CTE course students learn the ins and outs of becoming a culinary professional, leading to extraordinary opportunities after high school. Mrs. Oaks teaches many skills, but cake decorating is a favorite among her students! These students designed cakes for the Corpus Christi State Skills USA Competition. Karma Mitchell (Scarecrow) earned Best of Show for Showpiece, Best of Show for the Hospitality Cluster, and OVERALL BEST OF SHOW for the entire SkillsUsa Job Exhibits. Jayden Flores, Rusty Johnson, Eryk Jones, and Noah Tienda (Holiday Cake) earned Best of Show for the 3-5 Tier Cake. Matt Almager, Destini Blair, and Mariah Gaona (Snow White), Tea Johnson, Leilani Sanchez, and Mia Morin (Shrek), Sylvia Reyna, Jasmine Estrada, and Jullisa Cirilo (Three Little Pigs), Novalie Grant, Ciarra Sanchez (Princess and the Frog), Gage French, Gavin French, Brian Billington, Anaya Baiza, and Ariani Lopez ( Mario), Dusty Dodson and Jared Hernandez (Jack and the Bean Stalk), Elie Muniz and Lyric Muniz (Dragon), and Kaitlyn Penner, Lorina Ruiz, and Soo Jin Park (Smurf) all brought home the State Superior Award! Maci Coleman (Cinderella), Addison Mosteller and Bella Campos (Alice in Wonderland), and Malaya Tienda and Angelica Gonzales (Beauty and the Beast) all brought home the State Excellence Award! Mrs. Oaks, her culinary program, and these students are all amazing! Thank you, Mrs. Oaks, for paving the way for these students' future!
