Sophomore Year – Calendar and Checklist

August

  • Focus on strong study habits, obtaining good grades and participating in extracurricular activities including school organizations and/or sports.
  • Take courses that are challenging for you in order to be well prepared for college.
  • Continue to identify areas that are interesting to you.
  • Explore potential career fields

September

  • Schedule changes are to be complete by August 28
  • Stay in touch with you student’s teachers throughout the year!
  • Continue to focus on study habits, obtaining good grades, and participating in extracurricular activities.

October – December

  • Take the PSAT on October10

 

 

January – February

  • Registration of courses for next school year begins.
  • Review your courses/grades.
  • Parents and students should attend the Parent Meetings in February.Check your GPA (grade point average) and class rank.  GPA’s are determined after each semester.  You will be ranked in our class based upon your GPA (e.g., #20 out of a class of 200). 

March – May

  • Review course selections with parents.
  • Take courses that are challenging for you in order to be well prepared for college.
  • If you signed up for any dual credit courses (courses through South Plains College to obtain both college credit and high school credit), you need to sign up to take the TSI test.  You can sign up to take this test in the counseling center .  The test costs $30.If you signed up to take dual credit courses for the first time next year, you will need to complete an application for admission to SPC at www.applytexas.org.
  • Take EOC’s (End of Course) Exams.  English will be the week of April 11th. Algebra 1, Biology, & US History will be the week of May 6th.
