Freshman Year – Calendar and Checklist

August

  • Focus on strong study habits, obtaining good grades and participating in extracurricular activities including school organizations and/or sports.
  • Take courses that are challenging for you in order to be well prepared for college.
  • Continue to identify areas that are interesting to you.
  • Explore potential career fields.
  • Remember that all your grades are now part of your permanent record –transcript.  Your ninth grade year is the beginning year of meeting your graduation requirements.  Some of you have already begun this process if you took courses in the eighth grade that meet high school requirements.  Check with your counselor about credits.

September -Schedule changes are to be complete by August 25th.

  • Parents should attend Open House on September 12th.  Stay in touch with you student’s teachers throughout the year!
  • Continue to focus on study habits, obtaining good grades, and participating in extracurricular activities.

January – February

  • Registration of courses for next school year begins.
  • Review your courses/grades.
  • Parents and students should attend the Course Fair and Parent Meetings in February.
  • Check your GPA (grade point average) and class rank.  GPA’s are determined after each semester.  You will be ranked in your class based upon your GPA (e.g., #20 out of a class of 200).  GPA’s are posted outside of the counseling suite.

March – May

  • Review course selections with parents.
  • Take courses that are challenging for you in order to be well prepared for college.
  • Take EOC’s (End of Course) Exams. 
  •  Review course selections and make needed adjustments.
  • Have a safe, healthy, happy summer!
