Sugar Babies

LHS students in Mrs. Anitra Loa’s Health Science Theory classes were seen carrying the five-pound sugar babies around school. This intensive lesson teaches students the responsibilities involved in caring for even a small “baby.” It was harder than they expected to carry their babies around all day while still trying to focus on class and normal activities. The project helped students understand how tiring and time-consuming parenting can be and helped them appreciate how much parents do every day. Some other students were assigned to "babysit" after hard lessons were learned about leaving babies unattended. Overall, the sugar baby assignment showed students that having a baby is a serious commitment that requires patience, maturity, and responsibility.
