The Rain We Keep

Students in Levelland High School biology classes taught by D'Nae Wilson explored the importance of the Levelland Playa Lakes through hands-on science and community service. Her students worked with Keep Levelland Beautiful to pick up the trash around the lakes, and then they collected soil samples to study playa macroinvertebrates (small animals that do not have backbones). These organisms help students understand the condition of the ecosystem. LHS students then wrapped up their Playa Lake study by watching the Hockley County Water Conservation “The Rain We Keep” videos. These videos help students understand how important water conservation is in West Texas. The videos explain how rainfall, playa lakes, and groundwater are connected. They also teach why protecting local water resources matters for farming, wildlife, and future generations. Watching the videos gives students a better understanding of how their classroom lessons connect to real-life environmental issues in their own community. The videos encourage us to take care of local natural resources and show how even small actions, like cleaning up trash around Playa lakes, can make a big difference.
Thank you, Ms. Wilson, for connecting with our community to teach your students to make an impact. The Rain We Keep Videos
