Sweet Science

Science Has Never Been So SWEET! Who knew learning about cells could be so delicious? Students in Mrs. Billington’s LHS Biology classes are turning candy into science as they build their very own plant and animal cells! Using colorful candy to represent the different organelles, students are discovering how each part of a cell has an important job to do. From the nucleus that controls cell activities to the mitochondria that provide energy, every sweet treat has a scientific purpose! Students are also learning what makes plant and animal cells different, including the cell wall and chloroplasts found in plant cells. Mrs. Billington makes hands-on learning looks come alive at LHS! When students can build it, see it, and explain it, science becomes more meaningful, memorable, and FUN! And the sweetest part? Learning doesn't have to come straight from a textbook!
