Dia de los Muertos

We know that the best teachers never stop learning! Congratulations to LHS Art Teacher John Hope, who was selected to participate in a special Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) professional development workshop at the Buddy Holly Center in Lubbock! This unique experience brought together regional fine arts educators to explore the history, traditions, and artistic significance of Día de los Muertos while surrounded by the Center's Celebración exhibit. Inspired by the tradition of honoring those who have influenced our lives, Mr. Hope created five unique monarch butterflies, each dedicated to an art teacher who made a lasting impact on him. Every butterfly featured the teacher's photograph, name, and an example of their artwork. What a beautiful way to recognize the educators who helped shape the artist and teacher he is today! The workshop also gave Mr. Hope the opportunity to collaborate with other artists on a piece to be exhibited at the Buddy Holly Center. He received classroom art supplies and new ideas that he will incorporate into lessons with his LHS students. We are proud of Mr. Hope for seeking opportunities to grow as an artist and educator while bringing new cultural experiences, creativity, and inspiration back to his students. He is helping his students find their place with their creative talents! Thank you to Texas Tech University, the Helen DeVitt Jones Foundation, and the Buddy Holly Center for investing in our educators!
